Senior Research Associate
Mr. Stephen Kiirya has a Masters Degree in Education of Makerere University and additional training in HIV programs design and evaluation from Bruan School of Public Health and Community Medicine of the Hebrew University Hadassah in Israel; Social Protection and Cash Transfer Mechanisms from World Bank Institute; and Strategic and Multi-sectoral Approaches to HIV/AIDS Communication from the Johns Hopkins University’s Bloomberg School of Public Health Centre for Communication Programs. He is a member of the International Association for Cross-Cultural Psychology (IACCP), OPTAIDS Canada, Uganda AIDS Commission Technical Working Group on Research, and Union for African Population Studies (UAPS).
He has worked as Consultant for the Community Managed Health Response Program (CMHRP) on HIV/AIDS, TB, Malaria and Reproductive Health in Eritrea where he supported the Ministry of Health in researching Best Practices and designing suitable approaches for effective implementation and management of community HIV/AIDS, TB, Malaria and RH initiatives. He also worked as Implementation Specialist for Community-Led HIV/AIDS Initiatives (CHAI) of Uganda HIV/AIDS Control Project (UACP), which was supported under the Multi-country AIDS programme of the World Bank (MAP).
He has experience in designing, implementing and reviewing ASRH/HIV and Social Protection Programs in Sub-Saharan Africa region. He has conducted research and published articles on adolescent sexual and reproductive behaviour within the context of HIV/AIDS. He has also trained researchers on use of the Lot Quality Assurance Survey (LQAS) methodology, and reviewed manuscripts for publication in The International Journal for Social Science Medicine, The New York Guttmacher Institute Publication Series on ASRH, and The Makerere University Research Journal (MURJ).
