• The Environment and Natural Resource Management

The thematic research cluster on the Environment and Natural Resources Management (ENRM) aims at promoting knowledge and awareness building in the broader realm locally and internationally. World over, there is a renewed need to understand how to mitigate the growing demands of the population on the environment as well as the natural resources governance. It ought to be mentioned that the demand for fuel energy intersects with the global biodiversity and climatic change crisis that is affecting many parts of the world particularly the Afro-tropics and proving a headache for many actors in the realm of environmental management, who have embarked on every effort to arrest the declining levels of biodiversity resources.
Globally, many forests are under threat. There is also great loss of biodiversity especially in protected areas such as national parks, where people are using land for settlement and agriculture or other activities.  In that regard this cluster focuses on the issues of:

  • i). Climate and Climatic change,
  • ii). The People, the State and the environment,
  • iii). The Politics and Political Economy of oil and gas,
  • iv). Global energy reforms and consumption,
  • v). Forest biodiversity as well as the role of BRICS in the new resource nexus.
